Natural Hemorrhoid Treatment

Natural Hemorrhoid Treatment.

Natural Hemorrhoid Treatment.

There are lots reasons to use the many available natural hemorrhoid treatments that we have access to.  By being focused on natural treatments we actually find ourselves healthier all over, as each of the foods we eat and the herbs we drink help not only our hemorrhoids, but our whole well being.

On our previous page:  Natural Treatment of Hemorrhoids, we explained what hemorrhoids are and ways of treating them such as sitz baths and ice and heat, and lots more.

On our page:  Varicose Veins and Hemorrhoids Herbal Treatment, we talked about breathing, compresses and poultices, as well as about many herbs and how to use them, and about essential oils.

The page: Treating Varicose Veins, explains what varicose veins are (by the way, Hemorrhoids are varicose veins so we will refer to them both here), causes of varicose veins, exercise, pregnancy and some thing we can do to prevent them.

This page will round it all out by finishing up different methods of natural hemorrhoid treatment, including herbal oils or salve (make your own), suppositories (make your own), and vitamins, with a reminder of how important exercise is.

Shall we get started with even more natural hemorrhoid treatment?

Herbal Infused Oil.

Herbal oil as a natural hemorrhoid treatment is easy to make.  Learn how to make it by clicking here. Herbal infused oil can be used in a number of ways including massage. After the oil is made you can use it to make salves or ointments if you prefer.

Oil from a single herb can be used effectively or you can make a blend. Here are a couple of very effective blends.

Varicose Vein Oil

2 parts St. Johns wort oil
1 part comfrey oil
1 part plantain oil
1 part yarrow oil

Use 2 times a day - remember to always stroke toward the heart.

 Vein Oil

1 part yarrow oil
1 part shepherd's purse oil
1 part calendula oil
1/4 part cayenne oil

Use 2 times a day.

Herbal Tea.

Of course, herbal tea used as a natural hemorrhoid treatment is used as a beverage and taken by mouth.  Drinking this herbal tea strengthens the integrity of the veins and helps prevent distortion for occuring.

This is a great herbal tea blend:

Healthy Vein Tea

3 parts Hawthorn berries
3 parts Butchers Broom
2 parts Prickly Ash Bark
1 part Ginger (dried or fresh)
1/2 part lemon peel

Mix these ingredients together.

Use 2 teaspoons in 1 cup of water. Prepare as a decoction for 15 minutes (I always recommend at least doubling this recipe, so that you have more ready when you need it.) Then remove it from the heat and add 1/2 t. yarrow.  Let steep an additional 15 minutes. Strain. Drink 3 times daily.

Healing Tea for Healthy Veins from Rosemary Gladstar
2 parts butchers broom
2 parts hawthorn berries
2 parts rose hips
1 part white oak bark

Prepare as a decoction, again for 15 minutes,  and drink 2 to 3 cups a day as a natural hemorrhoid treatment.

We listed many herbs for natural hemorrhoid treatment on the previous page, but here are some of the other herbs that can be used in different ways.  We have so many different things we can work with there really is no excuse.

  • Buckwheat - maintains the integrity of the walls of the veins. It is loaded with fiber as well as rutin. Drink as an infusion or eat buckwheat pancakes, as a fun and different form of natural hemorrhoid treatment.   Buckwheat can be found in whole food markets and health food stores.  Kasha is a delicious breakfast cereal you can purchase at most health food stores.
  • Butchers broom - contains two anti-inflammatory compounds, ruscogenin and neoruscogenin, that constrict and strengthen veins and promote circulation from the lower extremities. It is high in Vitamin C and other compounds that tone vein walls . Drink 2-3 cups of infusion a day.
  • Capsicum (Cayenne) - excellent for equalizing blood circulation. It helps heal ulcers in the cell structures of the arteries, veins, and capillaries and reduces blood vessel dilation as well as stimulating blood circulation. It also increases the power of all other herbs. Though it sounds hot, it is an amazing natural varicose vein and natural hemorrhoid treatment! This is best taken in capsule form.
  • Ginger - stimulates the peripheral circulation and thereby aids the flow of blood in the legs.  It can be taken in capsule form or it makes an amazing tea (infusion) - one of my personal favorites.  See how to make it on our page on Cold Remedies.
  • Gotu kola - works wonderfully with circulatory problems in the lower limbs, including venous insufficiency, water retention in the ankles, foot swelling and varicose veins. It strengthens the protective sheath around the veins. Drink tea or tincture up to 2 times a day.
  • Hawthorn - maintains the integrity of the walls of the veins and strengthen and protect the whole cardiovascular system. Studies show that the combination of its antioxidants help prevent clotting. Drink as a decoction - I love the taste - or use as a tincture. (If taking digitalis or digoxin - consult your doctor before using hawthorn.)
  • Horsetail - an astringent herb which helps tighten up varicose veins. It is high in silica and strengthens the walls of the veins. Drink as an infusion. This is best in a tincture.
  • Nettles - high in silica - Drink as an infusion or eat the young plant or dried plant in soup. This herb is so high in nutrients and it is good for everything. Be sure you include it in your life just by adding it to soups or drinking it daily.  You can add horsetail and peppermint to make a very tasty tea (infusion).
  • Prickly Ash - a cardiac stimulant which increases blood circulation throughout the body.
  • Shepherd's Purse - an astringent herb which maintains the integrity of vein walls. Drink as an infusion.
  • Witch hazel - do not confuse witch hazel herb with the distilled witch hazel you buy in the pharmacy. Witch hazel herb is an astringent herb which tones and tightens vein walls. An infusion of witch hazel herb can be used as a tea, or it can be used in oils or salves.
  • Yarrow - is an astringent herb which maintains the integrity of the walls of the veins and is a diuretic which reduces swelling in the legs. It is great as a natural hemorrhoid treatment.  Drink as an infusion (by itself or by even adding it to any tea blend).

The advantage of using salve as a natural hemorrhoid treatment instead of just oil is that it stays on longer and is easier to carry in your pocket.  Salves are easy and very rewarding to make.  Learn to make salves by clicking here.

A salve which is very good for using on veins, either in the legs or in the anal area.

Vein Salve

1 part St. Johns wort
1 part comfrey
1 part calendula
1 part witch hazel (the herb)

You can also use any of the above herbs by infusing them in oil and making a salve to apply to your hemorrhoids or veins.

Suppositories and Enemas.

Here is a home remedy I read about but have never tried. Who knows - maybe it will work.

You can use raw potato suppositories or cayenne and garlic enemas to help heal hemorrhoids and relieve pain. Peel potatoes and cut them so that they are shaped like small cones. A peeled clove of garlic can be used in the same way. Do this 3 x a week.

If you aren't brave enough to do that, you can follow our instructions on making suppositories from infused oil and essential oil.  They are very soothing and healing.  Make Your Own Suppository.

  • Vitamin B complex with extra vitamin B12 and B6 helps relieve hemorrhoids.
  • Vitamin C reduces blood clotting tendencies. It prevents veins from sagging - the first step in getting varicose veins. Foods high in Vitamin C include buckwheat, nettles, rose hips, oranges, lemons, grapefruit, peppers, whole grains, hibiscus flowers, and the white rinds of organically grown citrus fruits.
  • Vitamin E - maintains healthy blood vessels and increase circulation; When a blood vessel is obstructed by a blood clot, Vitamin E can open up other blood vessels to bypass the obstruction. It also helps make the best use of the oxygen in the bloodstream. It helps prevent the heavy feeling in the legs.
  • Vitamin K or lecithin - is a fat emulsifier that aides circulation. It can help bleeding hemorrhoids. Good sources are alfalfa, blackstrap molasses, and dark green leafy vegetables.
  • Take lecithin, vitamin E and rutin supplements if you are pregnant to protect your veins. Sure wish I had known that.
  • Zinc aids healing.

Well, that's a lot of ideas we can use on our varicose veins and hemorrhoids.   We have so many options.  Try a few - or all of them.  I am sure you will find your personal favorite.
